Workshop / Session:
Bilingual Storybook Making, Grade 5
Would a bird be an animal if it has a tail and eighteen feet?
Can five animals be one? What will it look like? Whose hands will we use for which body? Will the animal be a bird because it has wings or an amphibian because it has webbed feet? Is it extinct because it is part-dinosaur or is it evolving? Students of grade 5 worked in teams to create new animals and discussed how they would survive, what kind of life they would lead and where they would leave. In this creative exercise, students reflected on what makes each creature special and how altering a small thing can make a huge difference. The exercise helped them reflect on the creative process of evolution.
